Wow. This was the treasure I was looking for. Did I say, "Wow" yet? I'm always on the lookout for authentic food cooked by those who love to feed, and at Malhi Sweets, I found it. A really old friend had recommended this place several times, and I finally went. It's a touch out of the way, the decor is not very fancy, but the prices and the food make up for it.
We had: appetizers (pakora), vegetarian biryani, daal makhani, channa puri, beverages (lime juice and Punjabi lassi) and three desserts. The channa puri is a meal in itself. The whole meal for two cost $21.25! They serve vegetarian food and non-vegetarian food, and I cannot wait to go back, maybe with that old friend.

Good Cheap Indian Food. This place does a large takeout business and is often full but it's worth a trip. Lots of Indians eat there and there's a cricket pitch next door. I thought the butter chicken was too salty; others have said it's the best in Montreal. There is a samosa in a yogurt sauce that was for me unusual and good. [02 Dec 2003 14:03:41] --sid -

Malhi Sweets, 880 Jarry E., 273-0407 (Park Extension)—Easily our favorite Indian restaurant in town. I mean, if it’s good enough for Catherine Deneuve it’s good enough for us. Recommended: pakoras, channa samosa, lentil soup, malai kofta, vegetable korma, dal makhni, channa, baigan bharta, garlic nan. Fantastic. $

Malhi Sweets in Parc-Ex offers remarkable, authentic Indian cuisine. A small sample of their menu items include: Vegetable samosas, vegetarian thali, chicken pakoras, lamb curry, butter chicken, shrimp biryani, spinach naan bread, lime juice, chai and Indian sweets. Malhi Sweets is also popular due to their channa samosa entrée. A sheer delight.

Probably the best take-out Indian we've tried; superb butter chicken in a thick cream sauce with just the right amount of piquant flavouring; the paneer was also excellent, and wasn't too heavy on the cheese, as some recipes tend to be. -Jeremy & Vinita's Montreal Restaurant Guide
